The Canadian consulting firm CGI is opening an “Innovation Lab” in Ansbach with a focus on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity for the public sector. It will already kick off in June 2022. 100 new, highly qualified jobs will be created in Franconia. The broad range includes AI experts, programmers and IT project managers. CGI is being supported with its plans in Bavaria by Invest in Bavaria, the Bavarian business promotion agency, as well as the Bavarian representative office in Montreal, where the company’s headquarters are located.

Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have acquired CGI, a top international company, for Ansbach. The region offers excellent location conditions. CGI has recognized the huge opportunities in Ansbach and can now use its appeal to facilitate further settlements.”

In addition to the geographically favorable location, the innovative environment with the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences and the new ANsWerk start-up center were decisive factors for the IT and business consulting company’s choice of location. CGI is already heavily involved in the region. In addition to the partnership with the ANsWerk start-up center, several cooperation projects with Ansbach University of Applied Sciences have already been initiated and many more are to follow. CGI also recently opened an office in Erlangen. The locations in Northern Bavaria are part of CGI’s initiative to broaden its reach.

“We are going to Franconia because Franconia has huge potential for skilled workers in the IT sector. The employees don’t have to travel long distances, we are coming to them instead,” Andreas Rathgeb, Senior Vice President Consulting Services at CGI The company also appreciates the diversity of sectors and opportunities for cross-industry networking in Bavaria: “Because Bavaria is always ready to lead the way, we gain advantages in Germany and worldwide by working here,” comments Rathgeb.

Founded in 1976, the CGI Group is one of the largest independent providers of IT and business process services worldwide. With 84,000 consultants and experts worldwide, CGI offers a broad portfolio of services – from strategic IT and business consulting to systems integration, managed IT and business process services, and intellectual property solutions.

The close exchange between Bavaria and the province of Quebec suits the Montreal-based company. The grand opening of the new “Innovation Lab” in the newly established Posthof in Ansbach will be held in mid-June in the presence of Roland Weigert, Bavarian State Secretary for Economic Affairs.
